Jackie Simons' "Be Aggressive" Is Perfectly Loud & Proud

In stark contrast to the sparse acoustic melancholy of 2018's Crescent Cradles, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jackie Simon's eleventh studio album dillydally is a multi-layered romp of willfully eccentric prog-pop.

The lead single ”Be Aggressive” is an experimental-pop romp, with driven by herky-jerky guitars, and a cheer chant chorus that pays homage to Faith No More’s similarly satirical queer anthem of the same name.

The first release from Simons since early 2018, the album has a pervasive celebratory energy, with loud + proud angular anthems like “Here I Go On Top”. Whilst retaining the depressive psychoanalysis of past releases, the playful prog-isms of dillydally serve as a platform of positivity and irreverent fun for LGBTQ people, and anyone who has ever felt isolated as a result of being honest about who they are and what they really feel.
